Work was disrupted in Kashmir University on Saturday after employees staged a protest demanding immediate removal of Registrar Varsity. The employees amid slogans assembled outside AD Block of the University alleging the incumbent Registrar has been harassing them on the one or the other pretext. “On the directions of Registrar University, security guards closed the Varsity gates at 10:10 am barring us from entering the University while the timing of the Varsity during winters is from 10:30 to 4 pm. We were treated like criminals and forces to stand outside the Varsity gate given the fact we had arrived here before time,” the protesting employees told news agency CNS. Reports said that as the news about the gate closure reached to other employees they marched towards AD Block and staged a massive protest. They demanded the removal of Registrar. “Everything has become defunct in the Varsity since the appointment of this Registrar. We are being harassed for the fault of our none. Big fish are spared and minnows are targeted,” the employees said and warned of agitation in case they are humiliated again. When contacted, Registrar Kashmir University Prof Khurshid Ahmed Bhat said that he checked attendance and ordered the closure of the gates. “The timing of the University is from 10 am to 4 pm,” he said.
